Position Description

The ACC seeks an exceptional General Manager to oversee the College’s corporate operations. This is an exciting opportunity to join a new and innovative organisation during its early establishment. As a member of the ACC’s senior leadership team, you will play a pivotal role in developing a vibrant and highly professional corporate culture – fostering excellence, creativity and collegiality across the College.

You will work with the President, Academic Dean and wider College community to ensure the efficient and effective performance of corporate operations to support the academic mission of the College. You will oversee marketing and the establishment of strong tuition revenue growth, human and physical resources planning and management for the College, including key services outsourced to third parties, and general operations of the College, including financial and regulatory reporting. You will also support the Board of Directors and President in ensuring the highest standards of governance practice and procedures.

You will drive organisational excellence in general management to support high standards in student experience and outcomes. This includes leadership of high quality staff recruitment and development practices, working with the Academic Dean to ensure high quality student administration and support services, and high quality infrastructure for effective teaching and learning environments.

Organisational Relationships

The General Manager reports directly to the President.

Core Responsibilities

The ACC General Manager oversees the business, financial and human resources planning and operations for the College and related services to support its higher education mission. This includes responsibility for leading:

  • Marketing and communication services to attract students and professional investment, support external communications with students and stakeholders;
  • Business development and ensuring ongoing viability of the organisation.
  • Aid in the development of student recruitment targets
  • The development, implementation and operation of the ACC’s corporate plans, policies and procedures, including managing the ACC Corporate Policy Library and Delegations schedule.
  • The coordination and administration of people management activities, including workforce planning, recruitment, employee benefits and professional development.
  • Financial accounting and resources management, including preparation of budget submissions and regular and annual financial and performance reports to the Board.
  • Services and partnership agreements with other entities, including for physical and electronic infrastructure to support quality teaching and learning environments.
  • Provision of advice on good governance to key stakeholders (including Board members), management of conflicts of interest, and oversight of staff and student grievances and appeals processes where indicated by policy.
  • Compliance monitoring and reporting against relevant corporate and governmental legislation, regulations and standards, including employment, higher education, OHS, privacy and information access legislation.
  • Risk management, coordinated across the College.
  • Internal communications with staff and students about the ACC’s operations.
  • Corporate legal services.
  • Implementation of work, health and safety policies, procedures and practices to ensure the safety of staff, students and visitors to the College.

The General Manager will model and promote the ACC Ethos and Values and engage in campus life, forming relationships with students, staff and leadership across the institution and within the profession.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Qualifications in business administration, accounting, law, human resources management or other relevant field, at Masters level or equivalent and at least seven years leading general management. Formal qualifications and certifications in business and finance will be highly regarded.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of organisational management and corporate services within the context of a higher education institution.
  • Demonstrated track record of managing substantial human, financial and physical resources at a senior level, such as head of a large division or company CFO or COO. Experience within a higher education institution setting or similar will be highly regarded.
  • Excellent understanding of the principles and practices of good governance, including within higher education institutional contexts.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, expertise and experience with accounting and financial management, including developing appropriate controls systems, budgeting processes and performance monitoring.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, communication and stakeholder skills.
  • Demonstrated success in staff leadership, fostering excellence, diversity, collegiality and inclusion.
  • A strong track record of professional integrity and ethical conduct.
